Located in the Taplejung District of Eastern Nepal at 3,794 m altitude, this sacred site is one of the Shakti Peeths (power symbols) in Hindu mythology. Thousands of pilgrims from Nepal and India visit this holy site annually. Pathivara is equally revered by Buddhists, who light lamps during monthly full moon ceremonies.
The ideal periods for visiting Pathivara are March-June and September-November, when weather conditions are stable. Beyond spiritual significance, visitors enjoy panoramic views of Mt. Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), the world's third-highest peak. This tour combines natural beauty, spiritual fulfillment, and authentic cultural experiences. The region boasts over 1,000 species of flowering plants (including rhododendrons) and 250 bird species.
The temple requires a 2-4 hour hike depending on your fitness level. We recommend physical preparation before the journey. Many devotees begin their ascent as early as 3 AM to worship during sunrise, considered particularly auspicious.
Pathivara implements an eco-friendly refundable deposit system to discourage littering. Your deposit is returned after worship if no environmental damage occurs. The hike features steep, irregular steps, but resting points along the trail provide relief.
Your journey begins with an early morning departure from Kathmandu. We'll provide lunch at a tourist-standard restaurant en route, with photo stops at scenic locations. The 10-12 hour drive (550 km) includes crossing the landmark Koshi Barrage. Overnight in Ilam.

Yangwarak Rural Municipality encompasses Pathibhara Temple. The journey to Pathibhara begins with a 20-minute drive from Phungling Bazaar to Suketar, followed by a 1–2 hour drive from Suketar to Kafle Pati. From Kafle Pati, Pathibhara Devi is around a 3–4 hour trek.
